Elections are an important condition for the formation and development of a democratic state governed by the rule of law. Through elections, citizens have the opportunity to express their political will, as well as to exercise their right to participate in the management of public affairs by influencing the formation of public authorities. Therefore, the creation of a modern electoral system that meets democratic requirements, ensuring free and active participation of citizens and political parties in the electoral process, reliable guarantees of the full exercise of suffrage has become one of the main priorities of the country's renewal and sustainable development policy.
Yesterday, an important political process in the life of our country - the election campaign of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan - was launched. In the first presidential election on the basis of the Electoral Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in accordance with the Constitutional Rules and international electoral standards, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, i.e. the head of state, is elected on the principle of unanimity. The Electoral Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which came into force on June 26, 2019, is of great importance in the political sphere of the country and is the main document that combines the laws governing the organization and conduct of presidential, parliamentary and local elections. The Electoral Code reflects the principles of universal suffrage, equal suffrage, and the right to a secret vote. The Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Amendments and Addenda to the Electoral Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan", signed on 31 May this year, provides ample opportunities to guarantee the electoral rights of citizens, ensure the rule of law in the election process and elections.
