EU supports Uzbekistan’s efforts to strengthen regional connectivity

The Head of Uzbekistan Mission to the EU, Ambassador Dilyor Khakimov, has met with the Ambassador at Large for Connectivity in the European External Action Service Romana Vlahutin.

The parties exchanged views on the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union.

The sides touched upon the course of the negotiation processes currently being carried out between Uzbekistan and the EU, including within the framework of the recently obtained by the Uzbek side of the status of a beneficiary country of the GSP+ system, the development of an Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement and Uzbekistan’s WTO accession.

The European diplomat welcomed the positive transformations taking place in the country. Satisfaction was expressed with the consistent development of cooperation in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. The friendly nature of the ties, which have acquired positive dynamics in recent years, was noted.

Ambassador Romana Vlahutin highly appreciated the constructive regional policy of Uzbekistan in Central Asia, thanks to which a new political atmosphere has been established in the region. Support was expressed for the efforts of the Uzbek side to strengthen regional connectivity. Ambassador Romana Vlahutin expressed interest in participating in the forthcoming International Conference “Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Challenges and Opportunities”.
