Political parties are allowed to participate in Presidential Elections

The Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting on the Snap Presidential Elections. Authorized representatives of political parties attended it.
At the meeting, the issue of admitting political parties to participate in the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan was considered.
– By the legislation, the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businesspeople – the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan “Adolat”, the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, the Democratic Party Uzbekistan “Milliy Tiklanish” submitted documents with a request for admission to participating in the Snap Presidential Elections, – said Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission B. Kuchkarov. – In accordance with the electoral legislation, the Central Election Commission reviewed the documents, after which these parties were allowed to participate in the early elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which will be held on July 9, 2023.
The issue of transferring certificates of admission to participation in elections and signature forms of a particular sample to authorized representatives of political parties was also considered.
– According to national legislation, a political party allowed to participate in elections must support a candidate nominated for the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, collect signatures of at least one percent of the total number of voters in the Republic of Uzbekistan, – said H. Mamatov, head of the CEC Secretariat. – A political party can collect no more than eight percent of the total signatures in one administrative-territorial structure. Political parties are entitled to collect voters’ signatures in support of a candidate only after the Central Election Commission issues a registration certificate to its authorized representative. Signatures collected before this date will not be counted. It is also impossible to forcibly involve citizens in the collection of signatures. Voters have the right to sign in support of one or more candidates. Signature lists must be submitted by June 3 this year.
At the meeting, it was decided to hand over certificates of admission to participation in elections to authorized representatives of political parties and signature forms of the specified sample.
