Snap presidential elections to ensure sustainable development based on the renewed Constitution

This year is passing in the history of our country as a period of democratic renewal and change. The reason is that the renewed Constitution adopted for the first time at the referendum laid the political and legal foundations for implementing the new strategy of Uzbekistan, defining the priorities for further development of the state and society at a historically important stage in developing national statehood.
Our citizens actively participated in this process with their feedback and suggestions to strengthen their confidence in the future. This is most eloquently evidenced by the fact that at the referendum held on April 30 this year on adopting the Constitution in a new edition, 90.21 percent of voters voted “yes”.
It can be said with confidence that the commitment of today’s multinational people to the development of our country is a clear example of reforms such as freedom of speech and openness that have been implemented in society in recent years. The full implementation of the new norms defined in the adopted Constitution requires the continuation of reforms with renewed vigor and enthusiasm.
Therefore, on May 8, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, at the meeting with the leaders of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis, political parties, judicial and executive bodies, and social activists, put forward an initiative to hold snap presidential elections, even though the legislation and the Constitution in the new edition provide the opportunity to continue the current powers of the President until 2026, then run twice for a period of 7 years, taking into account the fact that it is necessary to radically reform all levels of power through the innovations specified in the Basic Law, and also because the President, the government, ministers, hokims set urgent new political, social and economic tasks.
Undoubtedly, the presidential elections, which are held ahead of schedule, create the conditions for determining the direction for the sustainable development of our country based on the provisions of the renewed Constitution.
Therefore, the renewal of the political system and the elected candidates’ accountability to the people will accelerate the reforms. It is no secret that candidates are active before the elections and offers solutions to current issues that concern people.
This, in turn, speeds up the resolution of local problems. If necessary, they are allocated funds that were previously difficult to find, allows to form a team and organize work in a new way by the new constitutional conditions, further strengthening the legitimacy of state power.
In other words, each side will put forward its path and proposals for the sustainable development of our country in the next seven years, further improving the population’s well-being. In this process, our people will have to choose by supporting the candidate whose program they consider the best path for their future.
Therefore, we can confidently say that these snap presidential elections are a huge opportunity for our multinational people rather than for the five parties that are the country’s leading political force.
Our renewed Constitution guarantees all the rights to conduct this process openly and transparently by the law and political parties and presidential candidates to put forward new ideas and initiatives that will serve the country’s peace and prosperity and improve our people’s well-being.
